Te Whanau Raukura

 Raukura

PLAN:

  • The Visitors.

  • A reply.

  • The game called Simon Says.

It was a hot warm day. After morning tea, we went to LS2 to do our work. We took our hats and definitely our chromebook because we will use it for our work. Our work is a chunky challenge. We do this every week. The LS2 teacher (Ms Anderson) said “line up outside”. I had no idea what we were doing. We went inside the hall. It was weird for me. Because we only go to assembly on Fridays. Today was Monday. We went inside the assembly and we sat down.

The visitors were wearing very delicate Māori clothes. They were making noises when they came through the door. Then they went on the stage. One of them said “this is a noise to approach the inviters, so the inviters can hear us that we are here, and you guys invited us on the stage” one of them had a Māori spear in their hand. It was cool. It had an ancient face with glowing eyes. Then all of them started singing. After the singing they said “we are going to use these poi to demonstrate how we use them” but the women did it. Then one of the men took some small sticks. Then he did some cool moves with them. The other men used the sharp long spear that I was talking about. He did some different moves.

I became a bit tired from all that sitting. After that we did a reply for them. The boys in kapa haka were dancing for the visitors. The visitor's group name was Raukura. The boys were loud. After the end of the dance then they went… “heh!” it was pretty loud when they said that. Then they performed another dance. It was a bit different. Then the visitors clapped. I mean the Raukura clapped. After our reply they said “Thank you for the reply”. After that, they said “Room 5 and…” I did not remember what class we were with. The other classes were with different classes.

We were sitting on the grass field. Mosquitoes kept on biting me. We were with the leader of Raukura. The leader of Raukura got a big ocean shell and blew it loudly. Lots of noise came out of it. I was about to get blown away. After that, some kids said “can we use the horn please?”. But then the leader of Raukura said “sorry because there is covid 19 out here in New Zealand”. The leader of Raukura said “we are playing Simon Says in Māori”. I thought it was easy but then… THERE ARE DIFFERENT MOVES!!! He added more moves! Level 1 was easy. I just copied what he did. In level 2 he tried to get us out but no one was out. In level 3 he did some wrong moves and still no one was out. He got lots of people out and there were only 9 people left. I made a wrong move in level 4, and I got out. There were only 4 people left. In level 5 there were only 2 people left. It was Riley and Matheus. Then in level 6 they both did a wrong move. No one was the winner then we had a second round. I got out at the same level. I don't remember who was in the top 3.

It was fun seeing the Kaukura performing. Also we played Simon says,  with the leader of Raukura which was awesome!
