Te Reo Names

This week we looked at another set of Maori names.

Look Down

Look Down

Plan:

  • Problem - Oscar & Bob went outside on the plane wing.

  • Solution - Oscar & Bob got back to safety by using a parachute and landing on the right plane.

1998, Weastern Canada, Toronto Pearson Airport. There were two boys called Oscar and Bob. Their Mum was taking them to the Airport. Bob said “can we go to the U.S?”. “No” replied Mum, “We are going to Australia” but Bob ignored Mum. He went to the U.S plane instead of the Australia plane. Oscar followed Bob then Oscar said “where do you think you're going? you are supposed to follow Mum”. “I still want to go to the U.S,” said Bob Oscar sighed and said “ok then”. After Bob & Oscar went in the plane the door shut immediately and they could not get out of it.

Oscar said “it's not worth it opening the door ” Bob cried and yelled out “Mummy!“ Mum couldn’t hear them because Mum was far away from the U.S plane then they went inside the plane they were in 3rd class which was messy then they went into 2nd class But 2nd class food was not delicious at all then they went into 1st class and it was pretty empty.  Then a waitress came in and said “what are you 2 kids doing in here?” Bob & Oscar were shy then both of them said “we… are the pilots sons”.

The waitress said to the pilot “do you have sons” the pilot answered  “yes, do you want one?” the waitress answered back “uhhh… no thanks” the pilot said “ok then, and don’t bother me so I can start the plane”. Then Bob and Oscar sat on a comfortable seat. It was a master seat; it even had a gigantic TV. The waitress came and said “what do you want for dinner?” Bob said “tacos, poutine, chicken rice, som tam, seafood paella, potato chips, masala dosa, buttered popcorn and lamb shish kebab”. The waitress said “and what do you want Oscar?”

Oscar said “umm… chicken rice please”. The waitress answered “anything else” "no thanks” replied Oscar then Bob said “let's go out on the plane wing” Oscar said “ok” so then they went in the plane wing then Bob said “LOOK DOWN!!!” then both of them looked down. Suddenly a seagull hit them then they kept on falling until Oscar said “l have a parachute” then they used the parachute then they landed on another plane. It was an Australian plane then they went inside the plane and they saw their Mum and they both shouted “MUM!” Then they hugged Mum and Mum said “where have you been?” Oscar and Bob replied “umm... l was playing hide and seek” Mum said “ok”.

I am glad to be back to Mum that falling was very scary but it was close and we landed on the right plane (the Australian plane) and then we lied about the hide and seek. In fact it was kind of FUN from falling off a plane.

THE END

Here is my narrative. Can you tell what the problem and solution are?

Te Whanau Raukura

PLAN:

  • The Visitors.

  • A reply.

  • The game called Simon Says.

It was a hot warm day. After morning tea, we went to LS2 to do our work. We took our hats and definitely our chromebook because we will use it for our work. Our work is a chunky challenge. We do this every week. The LS2 teacher (Ms Anderson) said “line up outside”. I had no idea what we were doing. We went inside the hall. It was weird for me. Because we only go to assembly on Fridays. Today was Monday. We went inside the assembly and we sat down.

The visitors were wearing very delicate Māori clothes. They were making noises when they came through the door. Then they went on the stage. One of them said “this is a noise to approach the inviters, so the inviters can hear us that we are here, and you guys invited us on the stage” one of them had a Māori spear in their hand. It was cool. It had an ancient face with glowing eyes. Then all of them started singing. After the singing they said “we are going to use these poi to demonstrate how we use them” but the women did it. Then one of the men took some small sticks. Then he did some cool moves with them. The other men used the sharp long spear that I was talking about. He did some different moves.

I became a bit tired from all that sitting. After that we did a reply for them. The boys in kapa haka were dancing for the visitors. The visitor's group name was Raukura. The boys were loud. After the end of the dance then they went… “heh!” it was pretty loud when they said that. Then they performed another dance. It was a bit different. Then the visitors clapped. I mean the Raukura clapped. After our reply they said “Thank you for the reply”. After that, they said “Room 5 and…” I did not remember what class we were with. The other classes were with different classes.

We were sitting on the grass field. Mosquitoes kept on biting me. We were with the leader of Raukura. The leader of Raukura got a big ocean shell and blew it loudly. Lots of noise came out of it. I was about to get blown away. After that, some kids said “can we use the horn please?”. But then the leader of Raukura said “sorry because there is covid 19 out here in New Zealand”. The leader of Raukura said “we are playing Simon Says in Māori”. I thought it was easy but then… THERE ARE DIFFERENT MOVES!!! He added more moves! Level 1 was easy. I just copied what he did. In level 2 he tried to get us out but no one was out. In level 3 he did some wrong moves and still no one was out. He got lots of people out and there were only 9 people left. I made a wrong move in level 4, and I got out. There were only 4 people left. In level 5 there were only 2 people left. It was Riley and Matheus. Then in level 6 they both did a wrong move. No one was the winner then we had a second round. I got out at the same level. I don't remember who was in the top 3.

It was fun seeing the Kaukura performing. Also we played Simon says,  with the leader of Raukura which was awesome!
